Across 108 million video generations on the platform between November 2025 and August 2026, image-to-video was the default every single month. Text-to-video never got past 7% of the mix.

The blank prompt didn’t lose the race. It never ran.

## Image-to-video was never a contest

Image-to-video means the model animates a picture you give it; text-to-video means it builds the clip from a written prompt alone. The question people search for is which one to use. The data says that choice was settled before we started counting.

In November 2025, the first month with data, 92.1% of successful video generations already started from an image. Text-to-video was 6.7%. 10 months later the numbers are 87.3% and 5.7%. There’s no crossover point to plot. Image-to-video led on day one and hasn’t let go.

The obvious objection

The interface invites you to drop in an image. So we checked the traffic that has no interface: API, MCP, and agents. Image-to-video is still 74% of it. Even when a machine sends the request, 3 in 4 videos start from a picture. What doesn’t change between modes is length: the median request is 5s for image-to-video and 6s for text-to-video, and the 5s and 10s presets cover 73% of all image-to-video.

## The best image-to-video AI is whichever one people already use

People ask which AI is best for image to video. On this platform, that's almost the same as asking which video model is most used.

Kling 2.5 alone handles 43.7% of all image-to-video generations, and 99.2% of everything Kling 2.5 produces starts from an image. It isn’t the exception. Of the 10 models that lead either image-to-video or text-to-video, not one is text-first. The closest to a balance is HappyHorse, at 47% text-to-video, and it’s the smallest of the 10.

Figure 2How each model's work splits by starting inputShare of each model's successful generations by starting input. Kling 2.5 is 99.2% image-to-video; Kling 2.1 is 99.7%. HappyHorse 1.1 is the only near-even model at 47% text-to-video.

Reading

Model choice follows the input, not the other way around. Kling 2.5 is 43.7% of all image-to-video on the platform and 6% of text-to-video. Seedance 2.0 leads text-to-video with 17.9% of that mode, yet 80.6% of what Seedance 2.0 does still starts from an image.

Section 03

## What's eating image-to-video isn't text, it's video-to-video

Image-to-video's share slipped 4.8 points over the 10 months, from 92.1% to 87.3%. Text-to-video didn't pick any of it up.

Text-to-video fell too, from 6.7% to 5.7%. Every point that image-to-video gave up went to video-to-video, which grew from 1.2% to 7.0% of the mix. The reference is changing shape. First it was a prompt. Then a picture. Now, increasingly, a clip.

Figure 3The two small modes, month by monthMonthly share of text-to-video and video-to-video generations. Text-to-video stayed between 4.3% and 6.7%; video-to-video rose from 1.2% to 7.0%.

Reading

Video-to-video is the fragile one. It succeeds on 82.5% of attempts, against 94.6% for image-to-video and 94.1% for text-to-video, and it fails roughly 3× as often. It’s also the only mode where server errors make the top 3 failure causes. Part of its growth in the mix comes from API traffic, where video-to-video already accounts for 24.5% of generations. Whether that’s new behavior or a shift in who’s sending requests is the next report.

### Window

November 1, 2025 to August 31, 2026 (UTC), 10 complete calendar months. Inference-level data starts on November 1, 2025; nothing earlier exists.

### Population

Successful video generation inferences on the platform’s video generator flows (Freepik and Magnific combined), all surfaces except internal traffic. Video upscaling is excluded, and so are four pipeline services that run inside the video flows but produce no video (an image-moderation pass above all, 1.97 million requests), which earlier drafts had counted as generations. 108,268,437 successful generations across the 3 modes; 33,183 unclassified requests (0.03%) carried no recorded input and are excluded from every share.

### Definitions

A generation counts as successful when it returns status 200\. The 3 modes are derived from the inputs attached to each request:

- Image-to-video (an image in the request, no video)
- Text-to-video (a written prompt only)
- Video-to-video (a video in the request)

A model is provider, model, and version; resolution and audio variants are configurations of the same model.

### How to read the API figure

The 74% combines api\_b2b, MCP, and agent traffic across the full window. MCP and agent attribution is reliable from June 9, 2026; api\_b2b spans the whole window.

### Limitations

Volume, not share, follows traffic

Monthly generations peaked in April 2026 and fell through August as platform traffic declined. This report measures proportions, which held steady; it makes no claim about growth.

Requested duration doesn't separate the modes, and we don't publish it for video-to-video

Median requested length is 5s for image-to-video and 6s for text-to-video; 5s and 10s presets account for 73% of image-to-video. For video-to-video, 34% of successful generations carry no requested duration, so its distribution isn't reported.

We can't measure whether a video was kept

Download events don't link back to the generation that produced them, and library saves happen automatically (93% of generations, regardless of mode). No acceptance or download rate appears in this report for that reason.

Mode is inferred from inputs, not declared by the user

A request with an image and a video counts as video-to-video. Audio and style inputs do not change the mode.

### Reproducibility

Every number was independently recomputed by a second pass with its own queries before publication, including a recount of all totals and a check of the headline against non-interface traffic. Row-level differences between passes were under 0.0002% and changed no published figure.
